The BAUHALPS project focuses on promoting the green transformation of the construction sector in the Alps and considers the Alps as a living laboratory for testing new sustainable practises. The project combines the principles of the New European Bauhaus, which emphasise beauty, sustainability and community, with the DNSH principle to ensure that construction projects do not harm the environment. BauAlps aims for a sustainable transformation that is not only technological, but also aesthetic and cultural, using advanced technologies and involving local communities and their cultural heritage.

The main common objectives of the project

  • To promote the green transformation of the construction sector in the Alps by applying the New European Bauhaus (NEB) principles based on the values of beauty, sustainability and community, and to ensure that projects do not cause significant environmental damage in line with the DNSH principle.
  • Develop new standards and indicators for the assessment of sustainable and green investments in the construction sector, tailored to the specific needs and challenges of the Alpine Space.
  • Mobilise and involve local communities and cultural practitioners in the co-design of sustainable and aesthetically pleasing solutions that preserve the cultural identity and specificities of the Alpine Space.

Main results of the project

  • Development and implementation of new standards for the mandatory assessment of projects in the construction sector to support a sustainable and green transformation in the Alpine region.
  • Implementation of pilot projects to test new models of sustainable construction and presentation of these practises as exemplary cases for future projects.
  • Optimise existing open source tools that combine technical, aesthetic and cultural aspects of the construction process and raise awareness of the importance of sustainability and beauty in construction.
  • Developing reports and guidelines that contribute to the dissemination of project results and their application in a wider area, focusing on innovation and cross-sector integration.
