Opis Slovenian society of electric power engineers was established in 1993 as National committee of world wide non-governmental organization of power engineers CIGRE (International Council for large electric power systems). CIGRE (International Council on Large Electric Systems) is one of the leading worldwide Organizations on Electric Power Systems, covering their technical, economic, environmental, organisational and regulatory aspects. A permanent, non-governmental and non-profit International Association, based in Paris, CIGRE was founded in 1921 and aims to: Facilitate and develop the exchange of engineering knowledge and information, between engineering personnel and technical specialists in all countries as regards generation and high voltage transmission of electricity. Add value to the knowledge and information exchanged by synthesizing state-of-the-art and world practices. Make managers, decision-makers and regulators aware of the synthesis of CIGRE's work, in the area of electric power. In 1999 their society established second national committee CIRED (Congrès International des Réseaux Electriques de Distribution or in English International Conference on Electricity Distribution). The aims of the CIRED works are increasing the business relevant competencies, skills and knowledge of those who see themselves as a part of the electricity distribution community, whether they are from the utility, product, consultancy, service, business or Academic sector. CIRED is a ‘non-for-profit’ Association, indeed all costs in the operation of CIRED are covered by the individuals or companies who accept to undertake the tasks necessary to conduct CIRED’s activities. In activities of  national society beside international activities they develop and organize national conferences, workshops, publishing technical books, and developing vocabularies in the field of electric power engineering. In Slovenia we have 230 individual members and 30 collective members - Slovenian companies.
